Overseas_icon.pngDeciding On A Release Strategy Using A Folder Structure

There are a number of ways of releasing materials to students. If you intend to use a simple content-based instructional design model where all the materials are unconditionally released to all the students, this is very simply achieved by simply uploading materials to your Oasisplus module's home page. This is how most Oasisplus modules' materials are organised and released. If, however, you want to deliver materials to targetted groups, or you have concurrent groups within the same module section and they need to see the same materials but at different times, you need to have a group folder structure and you need to use a Selective Release strategy. There are several tools and strategies which you can deploy.

Folder Icon Structure

The simplest strategy is to have a folder icon structure, figure 1. This is where you have a number of folder icons on the Oasisplus home page. Each folder icon leads the students to certain e-learning components.
  • You may have all, or some, which are unconditionally released.

  • You may have some which are hidden and then subsequently revealed or shown by you using the Show icon in the Action link for that folder icon.
  • You may apply Selective Release criteria, releasing the folder icon by group, figure 2.
  • You may apply Selective Release criteria, releasing the folder icon by date and time, figure 2.
  • You may have a nested folder structure and you may apply Selective Release criteria, as above, to any items within these folders, figure 2.

Distribution Of Each Type Of Material

The more materials which you can unconditionally release, the simpler your release strategy will be. If you can aim for 90% unconditionally released materials in your module, i.e. placing those materials in the first folder structure, i.e. in the Red folder, the easier your materials will be to manage.

Any materials placed in the Extras folder will be conditionally released to the specified group. For example, the Hendon cohort will only see the Green folder icon. Similarly, the Dubai cohort will not see the green folder but will see the Yellow folder icon.

Within the Extras folder, further Selective Release criteria can be applied, for example, to release materials by date and time, or by Grade Book criteria or by further sub-groups. This structure thus allows for precise targetting of personalised content delivery. Thus each student can receive a personal programme tailored to their progress and their pace.
