Podcasting for academic purposes


Type of workshop
This workshop is offered on demand for groups of up to 6 participants. It is also offered on a one-to-one basis in a coaching/mentoring capacity.

Target audience
The workshop would be of interest to all academic and student support staff considering using this technology academically.

Brief outline/description
The workshop will cover:
  • what is podcasting?
  • how to listen to or watch podcasts
  • examples of podcasting in higher education (iTunesU)
  • what is needed to create podcasts
  • planning a podcast series
  • recording a short podcast, uploading to a podcast server, linking to OASISPlus (hands-on activity)

Intended outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants should have:
  • a clear understanding of what podcasting involves,
  • gained experience and skills to enable them to access existing podcasts and produce their own audio podcasts.
